SKIN CARE TREND ALERT: Skin Cycling

Skin Cycling is the latest trend in skin care but it's hard to keep up with what all of these new terms mean and how they can help your skin. For some, skin cycling may be the answer to helping sensitive skin tolerate active ingredients such as vitamin A (retinol).

The idea is that by adopting an evening skin cycle routine, one can prevent the skin barrier from becoming compromised from overuse of both active ingredients and at-home exfoliating procedures. Translation: It is a cycle of different skin care routines to keep in your repertoire so that your sensitive skin doesn't suffer from the repetition of the same active ingredients. Also, it is a great way to establish a consistent and effective routine for those with sensitive skin so they too can benefit from actives that scientifically are proven to lessen fine lines and wrinkles.

The caveat is… not everyone needs to “skin cycle.” If your routine incorporates actives nightly without any skin barrier issues, continue your routine because you will get a higher level of benefits from the active ingredients. However, skin cycling may be the holy grail you need to incorporate actives into your evening skincare while protecting your sensitive skin barrier.

If you think you would benefit from a spin on the skin cycle, here is the rotation I recommend:

Night 1:

  1. Wash your face with our Soft Milk Cleanser.
  2. Exfoliate your skin with your exfoliant of choice.
  3. Follow with anti-aging products such as our Advanced Hydration Hyaluronic Face Cream, Advanced Hydration Eye Cream, and Glace Aqua Gel Moisturizer.

Night 2:

  1. Wash your face with our Soft Milk Cleanser.
  2. Apply our Accelerated Delivery Retinol Cream.
  3. Follow with anti-aging products such as our Advanced Hydration Hyaluronic Face Cream, Advanced Hydration Eye Cream, and Glace Aqua Gel Moisturizer.

Nights 3 & 4:

Repair and Recovery: this is the time to nourish your skin with ingredients that support your skin barrier.

  1. Wash your face with our Soft Milk Cleanser.
  2. Apply your favorites between: Matrix Stem Cell SerumGlace Aqua Gel MoisturizerAdvanced Hydration Hyaluronic Face Cream, and Advanced Hydration Eye Cream. All of these products will nourish and support the skin barrier.

Skin cycling is not for everyone but, for those with sensitive skin, it can help incorporate active ingredients such as retinol into your skincare routine while supporting a healthy skin barrier. I hope this helps you navigate the complicated but satisfying world of skin care!
